Stony Plain’s Outdoor Activities

One of the best parts of Stony Plain is that it offers ample opportunity to spend time outdoors and stay active. With trails, parks, natural spaces and recreation hubs, there is so much to see and do all year long.

 
Parks

Rotary Park

Rotary Park is a beautiful park conveniently located off the main entrance into town. The Park includes a pond surrounded by a short, paved walking trail with park benches. Also on site is a playground, gazebo, picnic area and several large green spaces. In the winter months, the Town also creates an outdoor skating loop for the community to enjoy. The Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Centre is also located in Rotary Park.

Featuring an outdoor gym, this park is conveniently located along our trail system. This space features a cushioned surface and sturdy outdoor workout equipment available for use year-round, to aspire you to become fit and active in our community.

Shikaoi Park

Shikaoi Park is a beautiful Japanese garden commemorating the special relationship between Stony Plain and Shikaoi, Japan, pledged as sister towns since August 1985. Located next to the Town Office, this park is the perfect spot for a picnic, afternoon yoga or family gathering.
 
Trails

Trail System

The town proudly boasts its 43 kilometer extensive, inter-linked pedestrian trail system, which connects many of its neighbourhood parks, Town facilities, and open-space corridors. The trails system brings those spaces together, allowing residents and visitors to explore and get active using the trails for biking, walking, rollerblading, and jogging. Some parts of the trail system are wheelchair accessible.

Whispering Waters Park

Whispering Waters Park is located beside Whispering Waters Creek, which runs south to north through the center of town. It is the perfect location for summer BBQs and family outings. The park is located along the Town’s trail system and features a playground, group shelter and picnic areas.

Willow Park Natural Area

The Town designated the Willow Park Natural Area as a natural urban reserve in 2009. With over 150 metres of trails running through the area, this naturalized green space is home to a wide variety of small wildlife and native vegetations.

Umbach Off Leash Dog Park

A beautiful, 25-acre park designated for walking dogs off leash, the Umbach Off Leash Dog Park is located a dog’s bark from the Stony Plain North Business Park. The well-maintained park features a pond, walking paths, park benches, a large, grassy dog run area as wells as an agility park for those more advanced pups.

Rotary Spray Park

The Stony Plain Rotary Spray Park is a free outdoor facility that offers a variety of colourful spray features for residents and visitors of all ages. The park is located next to the Outdoor Pool and is open daily, from 9AM-8PM June to September, weather permitting.
 
Skate

Skate Park

   Map

The Stony Plain Skate Park is designed for skateboarders of all ages and abilities. This 16,500 square foot concrete facility provides a dedicated place for skateboarders to develop and show off their skills. The park features ledges, a half-pipe, tabletop, and kinked handrail.
 
Golfing

Stony Plain Golf Course

The Town’s 18-hole championship golf course boasts long, open fairways that are punctuated by strategically places hazards. All the undulating bent-grass greens are protected by at least one of the 84 sand traps on the course. The course also features a professional driving range, a short-game practice area, and putting practice greens.
 
Swimming

Stony Plain Outdoor Pool

The Stony plain Outdoor Pool has been making a splash in the community for more than 50 years. The outdoor, six-lane pool is open from May to August every year. The pool hosts a variety of events, including Midnight and Solstice swims, throughout the summer.
 
Tennis

The Town owns and operates two sets of tennis courts, which are open to the public at no charge. Both courts have asphalt surfaces with nets and perimeter fencing. The High Park courts are lighted for evening games.
 
Volleyball

 Beach Volleyball Courts

There are three beach volleyball courts located beside the outdoor wellness park! They are open seasonally for public use, excluding during club practices and league play.
